Robert Krikorian, PH., a professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati, has stated that “Recent human studies from our laboratory indicate that anthocyanins, a subclass of flavonoid polyphenols, are involved in the multiple benefits of blueberries.” The parts of our brains that are responsible for learning and memory benefit from these anti-inflammatory compounds because they can cross the blood-brain barrier.
